Welcome Message Jodi Hume, CPCC Exec Life Consultant |
Many upper-level executives and business owners have worked incredibly hard and enjoyed great success, yet they are not happy.
Perhaps they know what isn't working, but feel trapped by their own success. Worse, they don't know how to change it. Or, perhaps they aren't sure what is the source of their discontent, but know they have a deeply rooted sense of dissatisfaction. They find themselves avoiding their problems, becoming increasingly distracted, and often seek out escapist activities to disengage from their problems. From the outside, their lives look perfect and they feel like they have no right to complain -- they have everything they should want in life, and yet....
Imagine that you feel as excited and in control of your personal life as you do your career. You feel fulfilled and excited about your relationships. You have time and energy to pursue that list of "someday" items you just can't seem to get to. You've reorganized your life according to your values, goals and wants. No one else's.
It's hard to buck the system. Everyone else seems happy with 'success' - why aren't you?
You're doing the best you can. With all the hats you're wearing, you have enough trouble getting in a workout here and there. When are you possibly going to find the time and energy to work on something this big and complicated?
Everyone thinks you have the perfect life. You can't let anyone know that you're unhappy. You wouldn't want to drag your dirty laundry out into the light. Some things feel like they are better left unaddressed.
You can't change direction now! You worked hard to get this far. Everyone would think you were crazy if you changed tracks now, after all the work and effort to get here. Moreover, it seems like so much work to make changes. It's easier to just stay the course.
How do you change this?
First, you need to take a step back and honestly assess the situation. What are the core problems? What's working in your life? What's not? What's your part in creating this dynamic?
Once you have that clarity, you can begin to strategize, make decisions and implement techniques that will move you toward the life you want.
